Raising Kanan Ends With a Door Open to Origins

The five-season series closes with a 58-minute episode called 'Unconditional Love.' Its credits contain a lovely full-circle detail, and Kanan's screen story already has a confirmed bridge forward.

Fifty-eight minutes. That is the full runway for five seasons of Power Book III: Raising Kanan to land. STARZ lists the series finale, released Friday, August 7, 2026, as Episode 8, 'Unconditional Love.' It is the longest installment of the eight-episode final season, edging past a 54-minute premiere and a run of episodes between 51 and 52 minutes. The complete season page supplies every runtime.

This guide stays out of the episode's plot. That is not coyness. STARZ itself gives the finale a synopsis only five words long, and the episode page confirms just enough to plan a watch: runtime, stars, cast and the two most useful names behind the camera. Rob Hardy directed it. Series creator Sascha Penn wrote it.

A finale that keeps its coat buttoned

There is something hospitable about a network page that refuses to tell the ending before viewers can see it. The official synopsis is simply, 'Everything has led up to this.' That exact line appears on both STARZ and Rotten Tomatoes, which also records the August 7 release date and STARZ as the network. Five words, no furniture thrown around the room. Good.

The title does carry emotional weight. 'Unconditional Love' brings the show's family center to the front of the marquee without revealing what anyone does. After seven episodes with titles such as 'By Blood,' 'Dark Matter' and the delightfully literal 'Penultimate Means Second to Last,' the last chapter gets two plain words. STARZ's season listing confirms that sequence. The final title sounds less like a riddle and more like the thing the characters have been measuring all along. That last sentence is interpretation, not a plot claim.

The finale card keeps its people visible even while it hides the plot. STARZ places Mekai Curtis, Patina Miller and London Brown at the top, then includes Malcolm Mays and Hailey Kilgore in the cast listing. Those names appear on the official episode page. A streaming tile can make an hour look like a sealed little product. Five familiar faces are a reminder that viewers are really returning to a company of performers.

The first director returned for the last episode

Here is the credit that makes the finale feel neatly tied with string. In February 2020, before the series had aired, TheWrap reported that Rob Hardy would direct the premiere and serve as an executive producer. Six years later, STARZ credits Hardy as director of Episode 508. The filmmaker who helped establish the show's visual grammar came back to place the final period.

Penn's name makes a similar circle. The 2020 announcement identified him as creator, showrunner and executive producer; the finale page credits him as its writer. The closing hour therefore belongs, in unusually visible ways, to two people present at the public beginning. Television is built by a much larger crew, of course. The names on one card cannot contain all that labor.

At the final-season red carpet on June 12, cast members talked about the collaborative environment and relationships built across five seasons. Penn expressed appreciation for the writers, performers and crew, while Malcolm Mays reflected on lessons carried into his life and career. The Knockturnal reported those specific recollections. That is the humane detail an episode listing cannot hold: a production ends, but colleagues keep the habits they taught one another.

The same celebration produced a small acting lesson. The Knockturnal reported that Tony Danza praised castmates for listening and reacting to one another, the quiet exchange that makes a scene breathe. Joey Bada$$ connected the show's staying power to viewers recognizing pieces of themselves in its characters. Neither observation reveals a finale beat. Both explain why a weekly series can settle into a household: craft happens between people, and recognition happens on the couch.

Mekai Curtis grew up alongside the role

The casting announcement for young Kanan arrived on February 25, 2020. Mekai Curtis was already known for work including Girl Meets World and Kirby Buckets, according to TheWrap's original report. By the final-season premiere on June 12, 2026, he was discussing an emotional goodbye to a role that had occupied a substantial stretch of his young adulthood.

In an Apple Podcasts episode released that day, Curtis reflected on his parents' sacrifices, the challenge of keeping real life separate from the character and the prospect of saying goodbye. The parents' detail is easy to lose in franchise talk. It should not be lost. Long-running television careers still involve rides, schedules, relocated days and family members making room.

The hallway continues into Power: Origins

The finale ends this series, but it does not sever Curtis from Kanan. STARZ ordered Power: Origins for 18 episodes, with Curtis set to reprise the role alongside new performers playing young Ghost and Tommy. TVLine reported the series order and casting on July 22, 2025. Sascha Penn is attached as showrunner, writer and executive producer.

A first-look report on July 16, 2026 identified Spence Moore as Ghost and Charlie Mann as Tommy, with production underway in New Jersey and Curtis continuing as Kanan. BroadwayWorld published the images and production details. The source did not announce a premiere date, so there is no honest calendar square to circle yet. Confirmed continuation is enough.

A finale often asks viewers to hold two feelings at once: satisfaction that a story was allowed to finish, and reluctance to leave the people who made Friday nights familiar. Raising Kanan gets a small extra grace. Its last episode is longer than any other in the season, its first director returned, its creator wrote the script, and its lead already has another doorway. The porch light is still on.
