Joyful Take (joyfultake.com, the "Site") is operated by bee2.io, LLC, a limited liability company organized under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States ("bee2.io," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy describes what information is processed when you use the Site, why, and the choices you have. By using the Site you agree to this Policy and to our Terms of Service.

The short version: the Site has no accounts, no comments, no forms, and no advertising trackers. We do not ask for your name and we do not want your personal information. Google Analytics cookies begin only if you agree when asked; before that it counts pages anonymously, with nothing stored on your device and no way to recognize you. Decline, or send a Global Privacy Control signal, and even that stops. The limited processing that does occur is described completely below.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect names, email addresses (unless you write to us), payment information, government identifiers, or precise location. We set no advertising cookies, run no third-party ad networks, embed no social media widgets, and use no browser fingerprinting. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act.

Information processed automatically

  • Hosting. The Site is served by Cloudflare, Inc. Like any host, Cloudflare processes technical data needed to deliver pages and protect against abuse, including IP addresses and request metadata, under its own privacy terms. We do not receive information identifying individual visitors from this.
  • Aggregate analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It is cookieless: it sets nothing on your device, creates no identifier, and cannot recognize you on a second visit or follow you to another site. Because it stores nothing and identifies nobody, it runs for every visitor and there is no choice to make about it. We see counts, not people.
  • Google Analytics. Described in the next section. Before you accept anything it receives an anonymous, cookieless signal with no identifier attached. If you accept, it also sets the cookies described there.
  • Appearance preference. If you use the light/dark switch, one value (the word light or dark) is stored in your own browser's local storage under the name jt-theme. It never leaves your device. Clearing your browser data removes it.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles people read and how they find them. Analytics storage is set to denied before the Google tag loads, and it stays denied until you choose "Yes" in the notice. While it is denied, Google Analytics sets no cookies and stores no identifier on your device; it receives only an anonymous page count with no way to recognize you again. If you choose "No thanks", or your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we switch measurement off completely and not even that anonymous count is sent. Either way the Site works exactly the same.

  • Before you accept. Your browser requests the Google tag library from Google's servers when a page loads, which necessarily sends Google your IP address and ordinary request metadata. Analytics storage, advertising storage, advertising user data, and ads personalization are all set to denied first. In that denied state Google Analytics records an anonymous, cookieless page count: nothing is written to your device, no identifier is created, and one visit cannot be linked to another. We do not permit its cookies at this stage.
  • After you accept. Google Analytics sets cookies (names beginning with _ga) that distinguish returning browsers, and reports page views and interactions to Google. Google processes your IP address and technical data as part of providing the service, under Google's Privacy Policy. We see aggregate reports, not your identity, and we have not enabled advertising features, ads personalization, or audience sharing.
  • Changing your mind. Use the "Cookie preferences" control in the footer of every page to reopen the notice and change your choice at any time. If you switch to decline, we update Google's consent state to denied, disable measurement, and make a best effort to remove its cookies from your browser.
  • Automatic decline. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we treat that as a decline automatically and never show you the notice.
  • Legal basis. Where the EU/UK GDPR or similar laws apply, this processing happens only on the basis of your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you may withdraw at any time as described above.

The translation widget

The Site includes the Google Translate website widget so readers worldwide can translate articles. The widget code loads from Google's servers, which means Google may process your IP address and related technical data when a page loads, and processes the text of the page you translate when you choose a language. That processing is governed by Google's Privacy Policy, not this one. If you prefer that no request be made to Google, browser extensions that block third-party scripts will not impair the rest of the Site.

If you contact us

If you email info@joyfultake.com, we receive your email address and whatever you send. We use it to respond, to investigate corrections, and to keep a record of the correspondence. Email forwarding for this address is provided by Cloudflare Email Routing. We do not add you to any mailing list.

Articles link to external sources, and article pages may include plainly labeled cards for software made by bee2.io, LLC. Following any link takes you to a site or app store with its own privacy practices, which we do not control and for which we are not responsible.

The Site is published from the United States and directed to a general worldwide audience. Where data protection laws such as the EU/UK GDPR apply, our legal basis for the hosting, security, and aggregate measurement described above is legitimate interest in operating, securing, and improving a free publication (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); for Google Analytics it is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time via "Cookie preferences" in the footer. The Site is hosted in the United States; by using it you understand that technical data is processed in the United States, which may not provide the same data protections as your jurisdiction.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal information, to object to processing, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Because we hold essentially no personal information about visitors, most requests will result in confirmation that we have nothing to act on; where we do hold something (such as an email you sent us), write to info@joyfultake.com and we will honor applicable rights without discrimination. California residents: we do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of, and we honor Global Privacy Control signals: a browser that sends one is automatically treated as declining analytics.

Children

The Site is a general-audience publication and is not directed to children under 13 (or the higher age some jurisdictions set). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Retention and security

Aggregate analytics are retained on the schedules set by Cloudflare and, where you have accepted it, Google Analytics. Correspondence is kept as long as needed for the purpose it was sent, and for corrections records. We use reputable infrastructure and reasonable safeguards appropriate to a site that holds essentially no personal data; no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy as the Site evolves (for example, if analytics or advertising practices change). The effective date above will change with it, and material changes will be reflected on this page before they take effect. Continued use of the Site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
