A Calm Plan for a Late or Damaged GMA Deal
The seller is the first call. Keep the receipt, record the promised ship date, and know when a delay calls for a choice.
The packing slip is not glamorous. Save it anyway. Do not let it drift into the cereal-box recycling with the coupon circulars, because the name on that slip is usually the name that can solve a late, wrong, or damaged order. For a GMA deal, that detail matters more than the television segment that introduced the item.
GMA Deals says shoppers buy directly from each company, and its FAQ tells people with incorrect or damaged goods to contact the company directly using the contact information on the receipt. It also lists help@gmadeals.com as an assistance route within 24 hours for those problems. Start with the seller. That is the shortest path because the seller has the order record, product details, and fulfillment information.
The first five minutes
- Find
- The confirmation email, packing slip, order number, and the delivery or shipping promise.
- Contact
- The individual brand first. GMA Deals says brands sell and service their own orders directly.
- Describe
- State the order number, item, order date, promised timing, and the exact problem in a short written message.
- Keep
- The item, original packaging, confirmation, and a record of the response until the matter is settled.
- Escalate
- If seller contact fails, USAGov says to consider state consumer offices, a state attorney general, or the FTC for scams and suspicious communications.
Start with the name on the receipt
This is not a universal GMA return desk situation. The GMA Deals help page says each company is responsible for its own product and service, and that separate brands require separate checkouts. A May 28, 2026 ABC News deal page likewise directed product questions to retailers. If you bought two items from two brands, treat them as two small cases, even if both appeared on the same segment.
A clear first message needs no courtroom tone. Give the order number, identify the item, state the promised ship or delivery timing, and name the problem. Add a few well-lit photos if an item arrived damaged or incorrect. Ask for the remedy you want, such as updated tracking, a replacement, or a refund. Keep the exchange in writing when possible. Calm specificity travels farther than a furious paragraph sent before coffee.
The promised date changes the conversation
The FTC's mail-order guidance says sellers need a reasonable basis for a stated shipment time. If no shipment time is stated, the rule generally uses 30 days. When a seller learns it cannot ship as promised, the FTC says it must seek the customer's consent to the delay or promptly refund payment if consent cannot be obtained. This is general federal guidance, not personal legal advice, but it gives a delayed-order email a useful structure.
Keep the box until the answer arrives
That cardboard may get an unexpected encore. The BBB's return guide recommends keeping the order confirmation and packaging because sellers may require them for a return. Its advice is especially sensible for direct-brand promotions, where policies can vary. Soma's currently posted GMA event policy, for example, calls for the packing slip and says the shopper pays return postage on qualifying returns. That example is not a universal GMA policy. It is proof that the individual seller's page deserves to be read.
If the first door stays shut
Try the seller or website first, then save your messages and dates. USAGov's guidance says an unresolved online-purchase complaint can go to a state consumer protection office, a state attorney general, or the FTC for scams and suspicious communications. It also points international purchases to Econsumer.gov. Those are escalation routes, not the opening move for a package that may simply need a tracking update.
Most order problems are less dramatic than they feel when a gift is missing or a box arrives looking as though it fought a hedge. A saved receipt, a tidy timeline, and a direct request give the right person something useful to act on. The small joy is getting your kitchen counter back from the mystery, one resolved order at a time.
