After game 162, Phillies playoff games move to national TV
The regional channel's season ends with the regular season. Here is who carries each postseason round in 2026, why some Wild Card games are streaming-only, and how the bracket works.
The Phillies' last scheduled regular-season game of 2026 starts at 3:05 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, on NBC Sports Philadelphia. If there is a next game, it will not be on that channel. I think that is the single most useful fact for anyone typing "Phillies game today" in October, so this page follows the handoff one round at a time.
Why the regional channel goes dark in October
Regional networks buy regular-season games. The postseason is sold nationally, and NBC Sports Philadelphia's own help page says so plainly: playoff games air on MLB's national TV and streaming partners. No login trick changes that.
| Round | Format | 2026 TV home |
|---|---|---|
| Wild Card Series | Best of three, higher seed hosts every game | NBC for two games a day; NBCSN and Peacock for the rest |
| Division Series | Best of five, 2-2-1 | FOX/FS1 or TBS |
| League Championship Series | Longer series, pennant on the line | FOX/FS1 or TBS |
| World Series | For the title | FOX |
The Wild Card round is where 2026 changed
Under the old deal, from 2022 through 2025, ESPN held the Wild Card Series, and three of the four daily games ran on cable with one afternoon game on ABC. NBCUniversal owns the whole round now. An August 13, 2026 report from Awful Announcing, carried by Yahoo Sports, said NBC's broadcast network will air two games a day, with NBCSN and Peacock carrying the rest.
That report called those other games, for all intents and purposes, the first MLB postseason games ever exclusive to streaming. It also flagged a catch: NBCSN, a new cable channel, has far thinner carriage than ESPN, with YouTube TV, Xfinity and Fubo named. My read is that most fans come out ahead, because more games land on free, over-the-air NBC. Whoever draws the streaming slot will need a Peacock plan ready before first pitch.
The 2026 round runs from Tuesday, September 29, through Thursday, October 1. After that, the familiar partners return. MLB's announcement says FOX and FS1 keep the Division Series, League Championship Series and World Series, and TBS keeps its share of the Division Series and LCS.
How the bracket decides where the Phillies would play
Twelve teams qualify, six per league. The top two seeds get byes. The No. 3 seed hosts No. 6, and No. 4 hosts No. 5, with every Wild Card game in the higher seed's park. The bracket does not reseed, so the No. 2 seed waits for the 3-versus-6 winner.
On Saturday morning, NBC Sports Philadelphia's tracker had the Phillies at 87-73 and one game ahead of Arizona for the last spot, with the Braves locked into the No. 3 seed. If the Phillies finish sixth, they go to Atlanta for all three games. They also need to finish ahead of Arizona outright, because the Diamondbacks own the tiebreaker. The ending was not known when this page was written.
Win in Atlanta and the next opponent is the No. 2 seed, in a best-of-five Division Series played 2-2-1 with home field to the higher seed. Home field in the World Series goes to the pennant winner with the better regular-season record, regardless of seeding, which is one small reward for a long summer.
A few rules shift in October. The extra-inning runner on second base disappears, managers get two replay challenges per game instead of one, and the Automated Ball-Strike challenge system, new in 2026, keeps its regular-season rules.
The last time the Phillies came in sixth
Here is the part I enjoy. In 2022 the Phillies finished 87-75, grabbed the last National League wild card and made their first postseason since 2011. Then they kept going: a sweep in St. Louis, a four-game upset of the defending champion Braves, a five-game pennant over San Diego, and a World Series against Houston that ended in six games.
This year's club reached 87 wins before the final weekend. Same number. I will not call that an omen. It is still a pleasant number to carry into an October that starts on somebody else's channel.
