The five-touchdown Florida record Jadan Baugh shares with Tim Tebow
Three Gators have run for five touchdowns in one game: a Heisman quarterback, a freshman who scored on every carry, and a running back told that morning he was starting.
Trey Burton carried the ball five times against Kentucky on September 25, 2010, and scored on all five. That is the line I had to read twice. It belongs to one of three Florida players who share the school record for rushing touchdowns in a single game, and each got there in a completely different way.
The record is five. The three names are Tim Tebow, Burton and, since October 2024, Jadan Baugh.
Tebow's Heisman night at South Carolina
Tebow set the mark on November 10, 2007, in a 51-31 win at South Carolina. The Heisman Trophy Trust's account lists five rushing touchdowns on 26 carries, 120 rushing yards, and 304 passing yards with two more scores. Seven touchdowns in all. A month later he became the first sophomore to win the Heisman, and Urban Meyer called the South Carolina game a Heisman performance. It is hard to argue with him.
What strikes me about Tebow's five is how short they were. The Heisman account lists scoring runs of 1, 2, 3 and 5 yards, the work of a quarterback who was, in goal-line terms, basically a fullback who could also throw.
Burton's perfect afternoon against Kentucky
Three years later, Burton was a freshman playing all over the field. Against Kentucky, Bleacher Report's game account shows five carries for 40 yards and five rushing touchdowns, plus a sixth score on a catch, in a 48-14 Florida win. The six total touchdowns broke Tebow's school record for scores in a game. His rushing total tied Tebow's five.
Every carry a touchdown. I do not think any Florida record line will ever be more efficient. And Burton's career stayed wonderfully strange: he later became an NFL tight end and threw the Philly Special touchdown pass to quarterback Nick Foles in Super Bowl LII.
Baugh's first start, also against Kentucky
Baugh's turn came on October 19, 2024, and yes, the opponent was Kentucky again. With Graham Mertz and Montrell Johnson injured, 247Sports reported that the true freshman learned the day of the game that he would start. He ran 22 times for 106 yards and five touchdowns in a 48-20 win.
So two of the three record games came against the same school, and both Kentucky games ended with Florida scoring exactly 48 points. We checked that twice, because it looks invented. It is not.
Just been stuff I've been working on since I was little. My pops instilled it in me early.
He also made sure to share the credit. Montrell Johnson, the senior whose injury opened the door, had taken him under his wing, and Baugh said so plainly afterward. He was named SEC Freshman of the Week, and GatorCountry noted he was the first true freshman running back at Florida with multiple rushing touchdowns in a game since Malik Davis in 2017.
Hats off to Montrell, because he brought me in and put his arms around me and told me like I'm a good player but I got to keep working.
| Player | Date | Opponent | Rushing line | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tim Tebow | Nov. 10, 2007 | at South Carolina | 26 carries, 120 yards, 5 TD | W 51-31 |
| Trey Burton | Sept. 25, 2010 | Kentucky | 5 carries, 40 yards, 5 TD | W 48-14 |
| Jadan Baugh | Oct. 19, 2024 | Kentucky | 22 carries, 106 yards, 5 TD | W 48-20 |
Touchdowns versus yards
One clarification, since searches often blur the two. The touchdown record is shared. The single-game rushing yards record is not: it still belongs to Emmitt Smith, with 316 against New Mexico in 1989. Baugh owns second place there too, with 266 against Florida State on November 29, 2025, a story told in our profile of him.
The nicest turn is where the record has ended up. In September 2026, Tebow went on SEC Network and, as Saturday Down South reported, called Baugh the best running back in the country. The write-up never mentions that the two of them share a line in Florida's record book. It is there anyway, quietly making the endorsement sound like one co-holder vouching for another.
